He has now returned to the department in which he started in 1974 to become Fire Chief of Jefferson Township. and began at Prairie Township Fire Department on the west side of Columbus where he then spent 34 years working his ways through the ranks, retiring as Fire Chief. At that time Chief Snyder was hired as one of the two full time firefighters. He continued as a volunteer up to the time the fire department hired the first full time firefighters in 1983. Firefighter program at the end of his junior year of high school. He began his fire service career at Jefferson Twp. Jefferson Township Fire Chief Chris SnyderĬhief Snyder became Chief of Jefferson Township Fire Department on October 15, 2019. The full-time fire personnel have both their fire and paramedic certifications who train daily to better serve the community. Jefferson Township fire department is equipped with two EMS vehicles with a reserve, two fire engines, one tanker, one brush truck and station truck. Recently there has been an increase of commercial warehouses being built located just west of the village, directly off I-70. The northern and southern areas of Jefferson Township are primarily agricultural. Jefferson Township operates out of one station located in West Jefferson. With a total of 3-unit days, Jefferson Township is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Jefferson Township currently staffs the department with 5 full time and 3 part time fire personnel per unit day. According to 2020 census Jefferson Township consents of 7212 residents (42.10 sq miles) and Fairfield township 1452 residents (31.60 sq miles). Jefferson Township Fire Department proudly serves 79 square miles including Fairfield Township. The first full-time firefighters were hired in 1983. The Jefferson Township Fire Department was formed in 1947 as all volunteer fire department.
